Smithsonian Drawings

June 26th, 2012

This weekend I had the opportunity to go to the DC Zoo and the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. Both are fantastic and you should go if you get the chance. While I was there pretending to be 12 again I got to draw some of the skulls and skeletons on display at the museum. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I also took about 200 hundred pictures of animals (both alive and stuffed!) Here’s a sample of some of the sketches. More to follow I’m sure!

Ipad App – Children’s Book

May 22nd, 2012

So I’m currently working with a company called Farfaria that makes children’s book apps for the ipad… how cool is that? If you have an ipad, you should go to their site and download the app to see all the great stories and illustrations they have on there. I’m probably not supposed to say much about it at this point in development, but I can say that I get to draw animals and how can you argue with that? More to come once it’s published…

Christmas Portraits

December 26th, 2011

Here’s an example of one of the portraits I did for clients this year for the Holidays. This portrait was for a new JP friend and I was very happy to do it! The portrait is about 8×10″ and done in graphite.

I’m always accepting commissions, just shoot me an email: sophy (at)sophytuttle.com.
Happy Holidays!!

If you live in Boston and go to cool places, you might start to see a poster I did for the awesome band called Tallahassee. This may also be true if you live in Providence or New York City. Here it is along with the sketch, in case you’re not cool enough to see it in person. I highly recommend checking out their show as well.

Catfish

August 28th, 2011

I finally finished the line drawing for the upcoming issue of ANE’s Whole Terrain magazine. Now I’m starting to add color to some of my favorites. Here’s a catfish that accompanies a poem called Currents. Prints available on my Etsy store!

Animal Skulls

November 28th, 2010

Something I did on Thanksgiving. I love drawing bones and skulls, so it was a lot of fun to do. I’m still experimenting with color and finding things that work and things that don’t.

Hey Baltimore! Vote for me in the Baker Artist’s Awards!

October 31st, 2009

This year I’m participating in the Baker Artist Awards. If you don’t know what it is, you can read a little bit about it here. Basically it’s a competition for all kinds of visual, sound, and performance artists in Baltimore City. It’s a way to gain exposure for us and celebrate the rich art scene here in Bmore.

I’ve made a page with all my 2D and 3D work for people to vote on. You only have to vote for an artist, not their individual work. To see my page (and vote for me if you like it), please click here.

Thanks for checking it out!

I took a trip to Boston

July 27th, 2009

This weekend, I took a 10 hour overnight train ride from Baltimore to Boston, and then back again. It was complete with drunk soccer fans from the one Chelsea game ever to occur in the US, screaming children, and a dining car that closed before 10. Needless the say the actual travelling was not a good time.

Once I got there, however, I got to see my best friend from my childhood get married, go to my college room mate’s graduation party, and see my parents for the first time in 6 months. So, all in all, I think it was worth the 20 hours of agony.

On the trip back, in between working on freelance projects and catching up on back issues of Scientific American from my dad, I managed to do this little sketch of myself from the reflection in the window. Looking forward to doing it all again in a few weeks…

ACEO’s on Etsy

January 12th, 2009

I just found out what ACEO’s (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) are and have started making my own and selling them on my Etsy site. They’re business card sized (3.5 by 2 inches) pieces of art that you can buy or trade. It’s a great way to own some original art by someone you’ve always enjoyed without breaking the bank.

Here’s a sample of the series I just created. The rest are up on Etsy.
