Directory of Illustration

November 25th, 2015

I got my copy of this year’s Directory of Illustration a couple of days ago and it looks great! For those of you who don’t know, the DOI goes out to art directors, creative directors, art buyers, and anyone else in the position to hire an illustrator in America. Fingers crossed that it gets me a bit of work!

Pearl Street Gallery Show

October 29th, 2015

I just found out one of my paintings (Revenge) was selected to be part of the Holiday Show at the Pearl Street Gallery!

The opening reception will be on November 7th from 4 to 8pm. I’m also participating in South Boston Open Studios that weekend so I’ll be at the Distillery Gallery in South Boston from noon to 5:30pm, and the opening atPearl Street Gallery from 6 to 8pm. I would be honored if you would come by either Open Studios or the show opening and say hello.

If you can’t make it to the opening, the show at Pearl Street will be up until December 20th, but check the website for gallery hours because I don’t think they’re open too often.

Nirvana Chocolate Designs

June 18th, 2015

A few months ago I was hired by the lovely people over at Nirvana Chocolate to redesign their main line of 4 chocolate bar wrappers. They were looking for a something Scandinavian-themed (with the exception of the coconut bar) and they wanted animals with personality. I thought it would be fun to post a little timeline of my process since this was a fairly typical job, workflow-wise.

Every project starts with sketches. My lovely clients and I got together and discuss exactly what they were looking for and I made sure I understood the purpose of the redesign, the client’s likes and dislikes, and their expectations. After that, I headed home to start visualizing the ideas. Here’s a small selection of the first batch of sketches…

Cherry SeaSaltAlmonds

After this phase, we met again and narrowed it down to one critter for each label. I did more detailed sketches for each label.

With a bit of tweaking things here and there…

we move on to the color phase.

And eventually come out with a product that everyone is happy with!

The best part about this project was the free samples. Every single one is delicious! These chocolates will be available for wholesale through the Nirvana website. I’m not sure exactly when, but I believe they will be in stores for individual sale sometime after that.  Stay Tuned!

Apple Pointillism Color Study

December 22nd, 2014

Just thought I would share a color study I did for Color Theory class this semester. The goal was to create a realistic apple with form and light using only the primary colors and pointillism. It’s a completely different way of working for me, that’s why I wanted to share it. This past semester has really taught me to open up my working process and explore new mediums and happy accidents. As I spent time to reflect and process the last year, I’m excited to bring all my newfound knowledge to my working process and create new and more sophisticated work in 2015. Here’s to growing and exploring in the new year. Cheers!

Nashua River Mural in Fitchburg, MA is complete!

September 5th, 2014

After many long weeks of working tirelessly to complete this mural, it’s finally done! We are sincerely thankful to everyone who supported us financially, artistically, and morally through the process. It’s been a wonderful learning experience and I’m so excited to continue working outside and painting art for the public to enjoy for years to come.

Photos can be seen on the “Murals and Public Art” page of my website, or you can check it out on Facebook. We are also still accepting donations at our online fundraising page.

Many thanks to everyone again and we hope to have an unveiling at the Blacksmith Festival on September 28th. If you have a mural opportunity in the New England area, please contact me!

Marion Stoddart Mural Fundraiser!

July 7th, 2014

Hi everyone! I am trying to raise funds to paint a mural in Fitchburg, MA along with the very talented artist, Jon Allen. It will be to commemorate the community activist, grassroots organizer, and kickass woman, Marion Stoddart. Please consider donating a few dollars to our cause. We need to buy paint, supplies, and rent scaffolding (it’s a huge building) and this all costs way more money than we can afford. We feel very passionately about this project and I hope you can help!
